בר תמני שנין יאשיהו כד מלך ותלתין וחדא שנין מלך בירושלם ושום אמיה ידידה בת עדיה מבצקת:
mbtsqth edyh bth ydydh amyh wshwm byrwshlm mlk shnyn wkhda wthlthyn mlk kd yashyhw shnyn thmny br
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

ועבד דכשר קדם יי ואזל בכל אורח דוד אבוהי ולא סטא לימינא ולסמלא:
wlsmla lymyna sTa wla abwhy dwd awrkh bkl wazl yy qdm dkshr webd
He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.

והוה בתמני עסרי שנין למלכא יאשיהו שלח מלכא ית שפן בר אצליה בר משלם ספרא לבית מקדשא דיי למימר:
lmymr dyy mqdsha lbyth spra mshlm br atslyh br shpn yth mlka shlkh yashyhw lmlka shnyn esry bthmny whwh
In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to Yahweh’s house, saying,

סק לות חלקיה כהנא רבא ויטקיס ית כספא דאתעל בבית מקדשא דיי די כנשו אמרכליא מן עמא:
ema mn amrklya knshw dy dyy mqdsha bbyth dathel kspa yth wyTqys rba khna khlqyh lwth sq
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into Yahweh’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

ויתנוניה על ידי עבדי עבידתא דממנן בבית מקדשא דיי ויתנון יתיה לעבדי עבידתא דבבית מקדשא דיי לתקפא ית בדקא דביתא:
dbytha bdqa yth lthqpa dyy mqdsha dbbyth ebydtha lebdy ythyh wythnwn dyy mqdsha bbyth dmmnn ebydtha ebdy ydy el wythnwnyh
Let them deliver it into the hand of the workers who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and let them give it to the workers who are in Yahweh’s house, to repair the damage to the house,

לנגריא ולארדכליא ולארגובליא ולמזבן אעין ואבנין פסילן לתקפא ית ביתא:
bytha yth lthqpa psyln wabnyn aeyn wlmzbn wlargwblya wlardklya lngrya
to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.

ברם לא מתחשב עמהון כספא דמתיהב על ידיהון ארי בהמנותא אינון עבדין:
ebdyn aynwn bhmnwtha ary ydyhwn el dmthyhb kspa emhwn mthkhshb la brm
However, no accounting shall be asked of them for the money delivered into their hand, for they deal faithfully.”

ואמר חלקיה כהנא רבא לשפן ספרא ספרא דאוריתא אשכחית בבית מקדשא דיי ויהב חלקיה ית ספרא לשפן וקרהי:
wqrhy lshpn spra yth khlqyh wyhb dyy mqdsha bbyth ashkkhyth dawrytha spra spra lshpn rba khna khlqyh wamr
Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

ואתא שפן ספרא למלכא ואתיב ית מלכא פתגמא ואמר טקיסו עבדך ית כספא דאשתכח בביתא ויהבוהי על ידי עבדי עבידתא דממנן בבית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha bbyth dmmnn ebydtha ebdy ydy el wyhbwhy bbytha dashthkkh kspa yth ebdk Tqysw wamr pthgma mlka yth wathyb lmlka spra shpn watha
Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.”

וחוי שפן ספרא למלכא למימר ספרא יהיב לי חלקיה כהנא וקרהי שפן קדם מלכא:
mlka qdm shpn wqrhy khna khlqyh ly yhyb spra lmymr lmlka spra shpn wkhwy
Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.

והוה כד שמע מלכא ית פתגמי ספרא דאוריתא ובזע ית לבושוהי:
lbwshwhy yth wbze dawrytha spra pthgmy yth mlka shme kd whwh
When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.

ופקיד מלכא ית חלקיה כהנא וית אחיקם בר שפן וית עכבור בר מיכיה וית שפן ספרא וית עשיה עבדא דמלכא למימר:
lmymr dmlka ebda eshyh wyth spra shpn wyth mykyh br ekbwr wyth shpn br akhyqm wyth khna khlqyh yth mlka wpqyd
The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

אזילו תבעו מן קדם יי עלי ועל עמא ועל כל דבית יהודה על פתגמי ספרא דאשתכח הדין ארי סגיאה חימתא דיי דהיא דליקת בנא על דלא קבילו אבהתנא לפתגמי ספרא הדין למעבד ככל דכתיב עלנא:
elna dkthyb kkl lmebd hdyn spra lpthgmy abhthna qbylw dla el bna dlyqth dhya dyy khymtha sgyah ary hdyn dashthkkh spra pthgmy el yhwdh dbyth kl wel ema wel ely yy qdm mn thbew azylw
“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

ואזל חלקיה כהנא ואחיקם ועכבור ושפן ועשיה לות חלדה נבייתא אתת שלם בר תקוה בר חרחס נטר לבושיא והיא יתבא בירושלם בבית אולפנא ומלילו עמה:
emh wmlylw awlpna bbyth byrwshlm ythba whya lbwshya nTr khrkhs br thqwh br shlm athth nbyytha khldh lwth weshyh wshpn wekbwr wakhyqm khna khlqyh wazl
So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.

ואמרת להון כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל אמרו לגברא דשלח יתכון לותי:
lwthy ythkwn dshlkh lgbra amrw dyshral alha yy amr kdnn lhwn wamrth
She said to them, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

כדנן אמר יי הא אנא מיתי בישתא על אתרא הדין ועל יתבוהי ית כל פתגמי ספרא דקרא מלך שבטא דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk dqra spra pthgmy kl yth ythbwhy wel hdyn athra el byshtha mythy ana ha yy amr kdnn
“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

חלף דשבקו פולחני ואסיקו בוסמין לטעות עממיא בדיל לארגזא קדמי בכל עובדי ידיהון וידלק רוגזי באתרא הדין ולא יטפי:
yTpy wla hdyn bathra rwgzy wydlq ydyhwn ewbdy bkl qdmy largza bdyl emmya lTewth bwsmyn wasyqw pwlkhny dshbqw khlp
Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’”

ולמלך שבטא דבית יהודה דשלח יתכון למתבע אולפן מן קדם יי כדנן תמרון ליה כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל פתגמא די שמעתא:
shmetha dy pthgma dyshral alha yy amr kdnn lyh thmrwn kdnn yy qdm mn awlpn lmthbe ythkwn dshlkh yhwdh dbyth shbTa wlmlk
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, tell him, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,

חלף דזע לבך ואתכנעתא מן קדם יי במשמעך דגזרית על אתרא הדין ועל יתבוהי למהוי לצדו וללוטא ובזעתא ית לבושך ובכיתא קדמי ואף קדמי שמיע אמר יי:
yy amr shmye qdmy wap qdmy wbkytha lbwshk yth wbzetha wllwTa ltsdw lmhwy ythbwhy wel hdyn athra el dgzryth bmshmek yy qdm mn wathknetha lbk dze khlp
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.

בכן הא אנא כניש לך לות אבהתך ותתכניש לקברך בשלם ולא יחזין עינך בכל בישתא די אנא מיתי על אתרא הדין ואתיבו ית מלכא פתגמא:
pthgma mlka yth wathybw hdyn athra el mythy ana dy byshtha bkl eynk ykhzyn wla bshlm lqbrk wththknysh abhthk lwth lk knysh ana ha bkn
‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.
